Terry de Gunzburg e outros mimos para a chiqueria

Terry de Gunzburg
beauty secrets from the woman who gave us ysl's touche éclat

"I want to be the iPhone of makeup," By Terry's Terry de Gunzburg said during a recent discussion on cosmetics innovation. In a lot of ways, she already is. The onetime international marketing and creative director for YSL Beauté, de Gunzburg is responsible for creating Touche Éclat, the brand's concealer-highlighter hybrid that pretty much revolutionized the industry when it launched in 1992, and 20 years later, she's still innovating. "There's a science behind it—how to build color with a very minimal amount of pigments, how to saturate texture and make it wearable. That's what I want to achieve with my own line: professional results with very simple gestures."

When her YSL days ended in the early aughts, de Gunzburg launched By Terry. Next month will see the release of her new spring collection, Passion Pastel—which she describes as "vibrant and airy no-color color"—thus perpetuating her decade-spanning reputation for crafting "complexions that don't need to be retouched." Here, the beauty guru talks Yves, Helmut, and why she deserves a Nobel prize for her red lipstick.
